The Alamo Letter Society has appointed Lance Phillips as Chair for Limestone County, Texas. The Society, founded by 13-year-old Sloane McNutt, was inspired by her visit to the historic Alamo letter by Col. William Barrett Travis. It aims to educate Texans about their history by placing 203-pound plaques containing the famous ‘Victory or Death’ letter in all 254 Texas courthouses. The dedication ceremony in Limestone County will feature Congressman Pete Sessions reading the letter. Phillips, with deep ties to Texas history, expressed a sense of pride in his new role. This initiative underscores the enduring spirit and values of Texas as represented by the letter. The organization’s co-founders McNutt, Rosser Newton, and John Vick spearheaded this educational mission to honor the legacy of Texas revolutionaries.
