Barclays Plc has hired Martin Douglass from Morgan Stanley to spearhead its financial sponsors mergers and acquisitions (M&A) division. Douglass will be based in New York and report to Dan Grabos, head of Americas M&A. He will collaborate closely with global and regional heads, including JF Astier and Christian Oberle. Douglass, who joined Morgan Stanley in 2014, brings a wealth of experience, having worked on notable deals such as the $8.5 billion sale of MGM to Amazon. His new role will involve working with Barclays’ financial sponsors group and broader industry teams to attract private equity business, which is currently buoyant amid expected interest rate cuts. Barclays has been aggressively hiring, adding 19 new managing directors and directors since the start of the year. The value of acquisitions by buyout firms has swelled to over $100 billion in July and August.
