Scandit, a leader in smart data capture, has announced the acquisition of MarketLab, a Polish company specializing in image recognition and AI for the retail sector. This acquisition includes MarketLab’s shelf audit automation technology, which will be integrated into Scandit’s ShelfView platform, providing a hybrid data capture approach using both mobile devices and fixed cameras. This hybrid solution aims to optimize on-shelf availability, pricing accuracy, and planogram compliance, thereby maximizing sales and reducing lost revenues due to stockouts, a significant issue in high-SKU volume environments like grocery stores. With this acquisition, Scandit plans to leverage MarketLab’s technology to offer enhanced data capture solutions and improve store operations for its large retail customer base, which includes major US grocers and MarketLab’s existing clients like Carrefour Poland. The announcement follows Scandit’s $150 million Series D investment in 2022, aimed at accelerating R&D and focusing on AI/ML capabilities. The integration of MarketLab’s technology is expected to provide scalable and flexible solutions for retail shelf management and has potential applications beyond retail, such as in warehousing.
