Akcela Ventures, the only startup incubator in Norwich, has been awarded a £110,000 grant as part of the Ecosystem Partnership Programme. This funding initiative is a collaborative effort between Norfolk and Suffolk County Councils, Connected Innovation, and Barclays Eagle Labs. The investment will enable Akcela to expand its support services for businesses, investors, and entrepreneurs through workshops, self-learning modules, and full incubation services. The funding is particularly significant given the relative scarcity of startup incubators in the East of England outside of London and Cambridge. Akcela’s mission is to foster an entrepreneurial environment in Norfolk, thereby creating more jobs and attracting talent to the region. The grant will also support ‘The Future’ project, aimed at scaling digital technology innovation across Suffolk and Norfolk. This project focuses on building a stronger entrepreneurial ecosystem, supporting early-stage startups, and creating opportunities for founders from disadvantaged backgrounds. Key contributors to Akcela include experienced local entrepreneurs and several supporting local partners such as Ashtons Legal and Luminous PR. Barclays Eagle Labs has emphasized the importance of supporting tech startups and their role in local economic growth.
