EMV Capital, a venture capital firm focusing on high-growth deep tech and life sciences companies, has struck a deal to manage and, more significantly, acquire the operational venture capital business of Martlet Capital, a seed-stage investor based in Cambridge. The agreement excludes Martlet’s current investment portfolio, valued at £23.3 million with investments in 53 companies, which EMV will now oversee on a discretionary basis. This move positions EMV Capital to enhance its critical mass in fund management and increases fee income while drawing on the high calibre of Martlet’s investment brand within Cambridge’s tech cluster. EMV, with its parent NetScientific PLC, had previously invested in Martlet’s initial fundraising in 2021. Martlet’s track record boasts several successful exits, such as Abcam’s IPO and acquisitions of portfolio companies by industry giants like Meta and AMS. Looking ahead, EMV Capital has plans to harness the Martlet brand to potentially introduce two new Martlet funds, reinforcing its ambition to become a top-tier venture capital investor in the deep tech and life sciences sectors in the UK and Europe.
