Aliter Capital Boosts ITM with Bates IT Acquisition

Aliter Capital LLP, a private equity firm famed for its buy and build approach within the UK support services sector, has sealed the deal for the acquisition of Bates IT by its portfolio company, ITM Communications (ITM). Bates IT, based in Essex, is specialized in ICT support for the National Health Service (NHS) whereas ITM offers widespread network infrastructure services throughout the UK. Bates IT boasts a longstanding track record since its establishment in 1961 and is distinguished for its expertise in ICT managed and support services, primarily serving clients in healthcare. The integration of Bates IT into ITM, which operates under Aliter’s second fund, Aliter Capital II, aims to fortify the company’s foothold in healthcare ICT, concurrently enabling the broader aim of setting up a specialized healthcare practice. The recent transaction aligns with Aliter’s intent to expand ITM’s service offerings and reach within the critical networking and ICT infrastructure sector. The acquisition trails the appointment of Simon Fieldhouse as Group CEO of ITM in October 2023, following Aliter’s initial investment in the company in January 2023 from its £134 million Aliter Capital II fund. Fieldhouse commends Bates IT for sharing ITM’s fervent focus on customer service and sustainable practices, as evidenced by the former’s impressive retention rates and reputable advisory status. Looking ahead, Fieldhouse, alongside Bates IT’s principal shareholders and directors Barry and Christopher Fuller, envisions organic growth coupled with a rigorous buy and build strategy that entails further acquisitions, aiming for a robust national presence. Greig Brown, Partner at Aliter, echoes this sentiment, recognizing the acquisition as a strategic move to reinforce their portfolio with a leading player in essential network services across non-cyclical sectors, mentioning yet more acquisitions in the pipeline.
