Actis, a preeminent global investor in sustainable infrastructure has successfully extended its influence within the Latin American energy sector through the acquisition of Enel SpA’s major stake in Enel Generacion Peru S.A.A., and its entirety in Compania Energetica Veracruz S.A.C. The deal, aggregating to $1.3 billion, reflects a total enterprise value of $2.1 billion for full ownership. Capturing a leading renewables portfolio and the most extensive wind and solar development pipeline in Peru, this investment represents a strategic move for Actis. With this purchase, Actis takes over a 2.2GW diversified generation portfolio, including 12 operational assets plus one under construction, featuring wind, solar, hydro, and thermal assets. Peru’s energy sector shows strong fundamentals, evidenced by a 4.7% compound annual growth rate in demand from 2010-2022, setting a favorable stage for Actis plans to scale up operations and expedite growth in renewables. As stated by Nicolas Escallon, Partner at Actis, the acquisition aligns with the firm’s historical commitment to growing high-quality power generation businesses in growth markets, further entrenching Actis as a pivotal player in Latin America’s clean energy shift. Following this transaction, Actis has expanded its regional footprint, building on previous investments in companies like Serena Energy and Valia Energia under the Actis Energy 5 Fund. By securing control over Peru’s most substantial renewable portfolio and a prolific developmental pipeline, Actis is strategically positioned to significantly contribute to Peru’s national decarbonisation efforts and capitalize on the burgeoning demand for sustainable energy solutions in Latin America.
