EQT Private Capital Asia, part of the global private equity group EQT, has agreed to purchase WSO2, a prestigious provider of application development, API management, and identity and access management software, with the majority of its revenue derived from eminent customers in the Americas and EMEA regions. Founded in Asia, WSO2 has cemented its international presence and provides services to some of the world’s largest corporations, academic institutions, and governments. The acquisition will support WSO2 in its continued innovation and growth, particularly as market demand increases due to heightened API usage, cloud services, and security needs. EQT will leverage its deep expertise in the software sphere to propel WSO2, already renowned for its powerful product suite and solid customer relationships, into its next growth phase. This transaction also aligns with the strategic investment trends focused on digital transformations and Generative AI. EQT was advised by Ropes & Gray and Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, while the sellers received counsel from JP Morgan and Cooley. The equity stake of BPEA Fund VIII post-acquisition is projected at 45-50%. The transition is expected to complete in the latter half of 2024.
