Entrepreneur Peter Hopton unveiled Venture.Community at UK Tech Week in Sheffield, aiming to leverage £100m in funding to catalyze the tech startup scene in South Yorkshire. Hopton, known for founding Iceotope and VeryPC, developed Venture.Community over the last two years. During this time, five startups received crucial mentoring, with three raising a collective £5m. Hopton’s approach diverges from traditional accelerators by offering enduring support to an unlimited number of ventures. He celebrates Sheffield and South Yorkshire as hidden tech havens due to their highly collaborative ecosystems. Venture.Community’s sustainable model of tech acceleration includes continuous education, event series, and ample mentoring opportunities. Partners in this initiative include an impressive array of venture capital and service providers, such as Squire Patton Boggs and Fuel Ventures. The community also promises a safe harbor for founders to network and access resources away from predatory practices, epitomizing the inclusive and founder-supportive ethos of the project.
